There are moments in life that split you in half. For me, it was the day of my Stroke — the day a I had a stroke, came off a buggy, and my world went dark.
I was airlifted to Princess Alexandra Hospital and given a 1% chance of survival. One percent. Most people hear that and think “impossible.” I heard it and thought, “Alright. One is enough.”
The stroke left me with a traumatic brain injury. I woke up in a body that didn’t feel like mine. I had to relearn how to walk, talk, think, and function. Every step was a negotiation. Every day was a battle between who I used to be and who I was becoming.
Rehab wasn’t glamorous. It was slow. Frustrating. Humbling. But it was also the first time I realised something powerful:
Resilience isn’t built in comfort — it’s built in the rebuild.
I didn’t come back the same. I came back different. And that difference became my greatest strength.
